CS371p Spring 2021: Week 2

What did you do this past week?

I used this past week to look over the project instructions as well as start setting up the tools needed to complete this project. I also took some time to look back at past lectures to get a better understanding of things and to see if I missed anything

What’s in your way?

The only thing that is in my way currently is the part-time job I work. It takes up some of my time but I will find a way to schedule around it and find time to work on homework.

What will you do next week?

Next week I will begin writing code for the project and make sure that the HackerRank tests are being passed

If you read it, what do you think of the makefile?

I remember the importance of makefiles from Operating Systems and will be sure to go back and look over the makefile for this project.

What was your experience of Docker?

Docker was a little troublesome to get onto my computer but after revisiting the old lecture and getting some hands-on experience with it, I feel more comfortable using it.

What was your experience of assertions?

I think assertions are a good way to help you debug your code. They are a good way of creating checkpoints in your code to make sure that the values are what you think they should be. I will begin to use assertions more and more in the future as a way to debug and ensure I’m getting what is expected for some value.

What was your experience of unit tests?

Testing will always be a necessary evil. Creating unit tests is a tedious but necessary process for any good software development project. I am glad that I am learning this now because I know that writing tests are going to be a part of my future as a software engineer.

What made you happy this week?

I had a pretty relaxing weekend where I got to spend time with my friends and family.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

After seeing what happened this week regarding the stock market and Gamestop’s share prices, I deiced to look into different software that can help people get more involved in the stock market. I found this article that talks about a few different software that can help improve someone’s trading and investing habits. https://www.thebalance.com/top-stock-analysis-software-choices-1293630
